Where in the World (491)

Answer to edition 490

This week “Where in the World…” proved quite a challenge. It was not the colourful houses of Willhelmstad in Curaçao, Nyhavn in Copenhagen nor Burano in Venice. Neither was it St John, Newfoundland or Medelin in Colombia. Indeed there are so many cities with colourful streets of houses it would be impossible to list them all here.

The clue is the Turkish flags hanging from two of the balconies in the distorted image. After discovering the likely country a bit of detective work using an image search is the best bet.

If you were lucky and put in the right search criteria you may have come across this similar image from Wikipedia.

Failing that you would have to resort to probability. Asking yourself which Turkish city appears most in the search results?

The row of colourful houses in the distorted image can be found in the seaside resort of Silivri. Many consider it to be part of Istanbul and is certainly where the residents of Istanbul spend their weekends. For the purpose of this puzzle I will accept either Silivri or Istanbul.

Congratulations to the four readers who identified the distorted city from Where in the World (490) as Istanbul: Kerry (@EvansKerry), Tim (@timofnewbury), Claudia (@crevilla_) and Jackie (@jackiesjourneys).

This week's "Where in the World..."

This week’s “Where in the World…” will, hopefully, be a little less challenging. It features a well-known but ever changing skyline. There are several clues as to the identity of the city so you will likely not have to resort to the laws of probability. Good luck
