Answer to edition 581
The flag would suggest that the city is most likely in Vietnam. Having narrowed it down to the country the second clue is the featured building. It doesn’t look particularly like a palace or a government building but some kind of Memorial. It is in fact a mausoleum for the well-known leader of the Vietnamese. The city in its current iteration is named after the occupant of the mausoleum. However, the city is not named after Ho Chi Minh. That honour went to Saigon after the fall of South Vietnam. The city, which is home to Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, is Hanoi.
Last week's winners
There were a number who managed to get there Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Saigon confused. Congratulations to those who sorted it out and identified the distorted city from Where in the World (581) as Hanoi in Vietnam: Tim (@timofnewbury), Jackie (@jackiesjourneys).
Well done everyone.
This week's "Where in the World..."
This week features an iconic structure but not the most iconic. Nevertheless, it features in countless guidebooks, brochures, and Instagram feeds. First, identify what the structure is, then identify it specifically. That should make identifying the city easy.
