Answer to edition 540
Even in its distorted form it is fairly obvious that the structure is some kind of fortress on an island. Given the sun bleached stone and rocks and architectural style it is likely to be Southern European, most likely Mediterranean. That narrows the search down considerably. In deed, all the answers were Mediterranean based with Malta and France being the most common. The image depicts Chateau d’If, made famous in by Alexander Dumas in The Count of Monte Cristo. It is on an island that is just of, and administered by, the city of Marseille.

Congratulations to those who identified the distorted city from Where in the World (540) as Marseille: Claudia (@crevilla_), Tim (@timofnewbury), Jackie (@jackiesjourneys), and Rebecca (@rebhalp).
Well done everyone.
This week's "Where in the World..."
There is not much to go on in this week’s distorted image. What appears to be a bottle opener is your only clue. It is just part of a building which, in itself, is only part of the city’s skyline.
Good luck with this one.
