10 years of Where in the World
10 years ago Barack Obama was elected for his second term in Office, and Vladimir Putin was also re-elected as president of Russia. Instagram released an Android version of its app. Windows 8 was the current version of the Microsoft operating system. In the UK Queen Elizabeth was celebrating her Diamond Jubilee.
2012 was also the year that “Where in the World…” posted the first distorted image for readers of the Travel Unpacked blog to identify. To mark the occasion we are running a competition (see below).
Answer to edition 519
Last week’s distorted image proved difficult to identify – possibly one of the hardest. It features the façade of a building with coloured light projected onto it. That alone is no help at all. However, the style of the building is Gothic which may help narrow it down a little.
The giveaway is the asymmetrical architecture. It is different on either side of the central tower. There is debate whether this was intentional, but you find it in the Town Hall that overlooks Grand Place in Brussels.
Last week's winners
Only one person identified the distorted image as being in of Where in the World (519) as being the Belgium capital Brussels. Congratulations then to Jackie (@jackiesjourneys)
Where in the World competition
As usual with all the Where in the World competitions everyone who identifies the city correctly will be entered into a prize draw. After the competition closes at 22:00 [BST] on Wednesday, August 31 2022 the first name picked randomly will win the prize of a Cabin Max Metz Stowaway 20-litre backpack.
To qualify you must have a UK postal address and include the hashtag #WITW520 in your answer.
Now, to this week’s distorted image. It features a well-known building in the city to be identified. Identify the building and you will easily identify the city.
