Answer to edition 479
The prominence of the church was the biggest clue in the distorted image from last week. The façade features a Star of David which was worked into the composition by the Jewish architect Niccolo Matas from Ancona. This identifies the church as the Basilica di Santa Croce. Many prominent Italians such as Michaelangelo, Rossini, Machiavelli and Galileo are buried there.
All these lived and worked in the city in which the church stands. The city is Florence.
