Top tips from #travchat

What is #travchat?

Follow the hashtag #travchat on Twitter to meet with like-minded people. It is a place where…

...travellers come to talk, to share and to stay a while.

We meet every Wednesday at 10:30am London time; officially for an hour but many hang around longer than that. You can read more about it here.

Top tips from TravChat

The topic for Wednesday, February 12, 2020 was Travel Tips. You can follow any of the topics by going to Twitter and following the hashtag #travchat. However, I have summarised some of the tips for planning your trip and getting the best deals in this post.

Which apps or websites?

The first question on #travchat was tips as to which websites or apps to use to plan and book trips. There was a huge variety of preferences but a number of sites and apps were repeated mentioned. Booking.com UK (£), Google and Vamoos Travel App were all popular. Interestingly, omnipresent Skyscanner (£) for flights and TripAdvisor (£) for accommodation did not fare nearly so well. The likes of Expedia (£) and Kayak didn’t even get a mention.

The website www.thetouristtrail.org was mentioned. I have since visited the site. It looks like a great site to plan and organise trips around the UK. I have already decided to ‘test drive’ it to plan my Dorset trip later this year.

Getting the best deal

Most travellers want the best deal possible. The Internet is awash with blog posts and social media posts claiming to give the best tips. The tweets below give a flavour of how the conversation went on #travchat.

In a follow up to the above tweet yours truly made a suggestion.

You would be more than welcome to join in the Twitter chat at 10:30am UK time, every Wednesday. We cover a wide range of topics from destinations to travel issues.

There was a lot of discussion on finding the best local food when travelling and ensuring it was safe to eat. Those tips however, will have to wait for a further post… coming up soon.
