British Airways: London Heathrow – Dusseldorf
British Airways is a full service global airline and part of the One World Alliance. It serves short, medium and long haul destinations internationally and also has a comprehensive domestic network.
Booking
I purchased my ticket online which was a fairly straight forward experience. The stated price was almost what you paid. There were no extras for check-in baggage, priority boarding, allocated seating or administration charges. There was a however, a rather steep £4.50 surcharge for using a credit card. This was mentioned earlier in the booking process but in the small print. Although you can book and guarantee an assigned seat for £5 charge I chose not to. This was only a short-haul flight and at check-in (see below) you can choose a seat from those left without a charge. In my view this was an unnecessary expense.
Check-in
I chose to do this online but there is no charge if you choose to do it at the airport. Check-in opens 24 hours prior to departure and is quick and easy. At this point you have the option choose or change your assigned seat free of charge. The bag drop at T5 was very efficient.
Boarding
Departure lounge comfortable and adequate for the number of passengers. Boarding was hardly more than a pause in the check-in to aircraft journey.
Flight
The flight crew were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The seats are leather and comfortable with an ample 31 inches of legroom. The neck support was adjustable and the back of the seat reclines. It was a morning flight so breakfast snack of a roll, orange juicewas served a snack of egg mayonnaise and ham with orange juice and a coffee or tea. Forgot to order vegetarian as used to buying snacks on board. Free. Usual announcements from flight deck but no further “selling” announcements making for a relaxed flight which arrived on time.
After this flight I wondered why I don’t fly BA more often.
